Despite its relatively small population compared to other counties in Taiwan, it has some of the most beautiful scenery, delicious local food, and interesting history. Come for Alishan, and stay for everything else you find along the way. Below I will list out some of the best places in Chiayi that I have visited. You do not want to be stuck on a super steep one-lane road with thick fog, so stay on the main two-lane highway.\u00a0<br \/>You can rent a scooter for cheap in front of the Chiayi Train Station. I would suggest getting at least a large 125 cc scooter that can make it up the mountain. Some rental shops do not even require to see a license. The area is now a popular Instagrammer location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chiayi Park \u5609\u7fa9\u516c\u5712<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rersczyr.a2hosted.com\/wordpress_z\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/FwOJ1BMaYAA-Ijc-jpg-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6145\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Chiayi Park is perhaps the best park around Chiayi. The Sun-Shooting Tower in Chiayi Park rises 62 meters and is meant to look like a giant tree at Alishan. There is a cafe and observation deck on top, but unfortunately, it was closed when I visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chiayi Confucious Temple \u5609\u7fa9\u5b54\u5edf<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rersczyr.a2hosted.com\/wordpress_z\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/FwOI06YakAIqIl3-jpg-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6146\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Confucious Temple in Chiayi City is on the side of Chiayi Park. It is one of the smaller Confucious temples in Taiwan and seems to be forgotten by most visitors to the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zengwen Reservoir \u66fe\u6587\u6c34\u5eab<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rersczyr.a2hosted.com\/wordpress_z\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GNnOX4FbIAAPEdE-jpg-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6147\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kkday.com\/en\/product\/29261?cid=9223&amp;ud1=fsd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tsengwen Reservoir<\/a> in Chiayi is the largest reservoir in Taiwan. It provides flood control, hydroelectric power, and water supply to the Chianan Plain. You can drive around it and enjoy the views, and also take a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kkday.com\/en\/product\/29261?cid=9223&amp;ud1=fsd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">boat tour around the reservoir&nbsp;<\/a>through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kkday.com\/en\/product\/29261?cid=9223&amp;ud1=fsd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KKday here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Suantou Sugar Factory \u849c\u982d\u7cd6\u5ee0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rersczyr.a2hosted.com\/wordpress_z\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/FkZCLf0aEAAtsph-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6148\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Liujiadian Changshou Bridge in Chiayi is claimed to be the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Taiwan at 390 meters long.
